I've been totally obsessing with Amy Lau's work lately... I just love her organic approach to design. My favorite spaces of hers always include some kind of natural element - whether a texture, an object, or a shape. In addition, she elegantly balances color and stark whites, which really makes her chosen design elements POP!

Hagerty House
Walter Gropius - German architect and founder of the Bauhaus movement - accepted his first US commission in 1938, which later became known as "The Hagerty House". At the time, Gropius was teaching at Harvard University, where he was approached by a student who was interested in having him design a summer home for his mother. That student's name was John Hagerty, and he was captivated by Gropius's simplistic style. The house was built a mere 20 feet from the shoreline in Cohassett, Massachusetts.
The house's metal framed windows sit flush with the white wooden siding, and granite harvested from the building site was used for the stone walls and chimney. The utilitarian design, and fusion with the local landscape, makes this a perfect example of typical Bauhaus style....

In honor of...
The 2011 Hallmark Holiday is now upon us - and ironically, I've been totally obsessed with red and pink lately. Not just on their own, but paired together. These two colors are usually considered somewhat of a faux pas when combined, except for in celebration of Valentine's Day... but it's really growing on me!

A little sunshine is in order...
I love all shades of grey, but I think us folks in the North East have been seeing a bit too much of it outside lately! I'm craving some bright yellow sunshine, like most people, so these "warming" images have got me smiling today :)
