I had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with a fellow Chester Merchant this past weekend - the owner of The Upstairs Kitchen, Sarah Jansen. A former architectural designer, turned healthful gourmet chef, Sarah's passion for "getting back to basics" was evident after being in her presence for mere minutes. Located on the 2nd floor of a historic downtown 1880s building, The Upstairs Kitchen will be offering classes led by local health conscious chefs, ranging from working with basic greens and root vegetables to more focused specialties like cleansing and eating raw.
After swinging by the Studio, she warmly invited me + my raw food chef friend, Lisa, over to see the new space. Upon entering The Upstairs Kitchen, which is also her home, a wave of curious excitement took over. Layers of crisp white crown molding - Dramatically oversized kitchen island - And my favorite part... A custom farm table, designed by Sarah herself, is cleverly armed with two removable rustic beams with routed out holes just large enough for the table legs to fit in, which allows the table to match the height of the Island in order to make one HUGE table for special classes + dinners... can you say, Brilliant?!
A full schedule of classes for 2012 is in the works, but here are some classes that have happened, or have yet to happen, this year...
