Tidy Mudrooms

With all of the dirt and snow being tracked in by myself, my husband, and my new puppy - a tidied up mudroom has become #1 on the home to-do list! I have made a temporary area for us to take off muddy shoes and hang up icy coats, but these images have got me thinking for my future REAL mudroom!

Stamberg Aferiat

Stamberg Aferiat Architects - spearheaded by Peter Stamberg & Paul Aferiat - is probably one of the most adventurous, playful, and talented architecture firms out there today. One of their designs graced the cover of a recent issue of Architectural Digest, and I couldn't wait to flip through to find the article. I love their use of surprising color (in surprising locations!), simple shapes, and careful placement of mid-century classic furniture. I could post for days just based on their work, but I'll leave you with their article from Architectural Digest for now... :)

Backyard Home Office

I have always wanted a semi-detached home office... I love the idea of having it easily accessible, but not right in the middle of all your personal distractions... i.e. new puppy ;0)  Just somewhere where you can close the door for even just 20 minutes or so, and really focus on your work.

I came across this little 10'x10' backyard home office, designed by Canadian architect Kevin Deevey, and could totally picture myself in there! It is primarily built out of commercial grade aluminum window frames, dark exterior plywood, and corrugated metal.
